JACK'S MANNEQUIN - PEOPLE AND THINGS (CD) Release Date: 10/2/2012
Released in Australia to coincide with the band’s appearance at Soundwave Festival in February, Jack's Mannequin’s new album, People and Things, will be in store February 10th. Main man, Andrew McMahon, is one of the true great songwriters of the last decade and, as his music always has been, People and Things is a personal record.
Packed full of McMahon’s trademark piano-led pop-rock tunes, People and Things switches effortlessly between sing-a-long songs (including first single My Racing Thoughts and Amy, I), to emotional power ballads, such as Hey Hey Hey (We're All GonnaDie). The fans like what they hear, and in the US (where the album was released last year) People and Things debut at #9 on the Billboard Chart, almost equally the band’s previous album, The Glass Passenger, which debuted at #8.
According to McMahon, Jack’s Mannequin’s third album, People and Things, can be viewed as the final instalment to a three-part story. But fear not – while this chapter is coming to a close, there’s still plenty to be written.
If the 29-year-old’s debut, Everything in Transit, was his melodic break-up record, and 2008’s The Glass Passenger was a snapshot of his battle with leukaemia, People and Things could analogously be referred to as “the return home,” McMahon says.
