JEHRO - CANTINA PARADISE (CD)
Born in Marseille, France, to a singer / songwriter father, Jehro grew up listening to the likes of Jacques Brel and Edith Piaf. British pop songs, reggae and Latin rhythm helped him to forget his musical identity and his vocations. Cantina Paradise is his third album and on it he sings in English and Spanish.
His debut album from 1999, L'Arbre et le Fruit, already showcased his elegant and melodious songwriting. When The Marathonians came calling in 2003, he co-wrote six songs for a project involving one of the godfathers of American soul, Edwin Starr, and the reggae veteran Toots Hibbert. This was a timely transition because it led him to record Jehro in 2006, produced by The Marathonians. It was released in 15 countries and sold almost 150,000 copies.
Cantina Paradise showcases his art of mixing and matching styles and sounds. Last but not least, it takes very little - a hint of Afrobeat on Young Blood, a touch of samba on Here & Now - to distil some heady musical concoctions to dance and fall in love to.
